Why IDP?
Several years ago something horrific unfolded on the campus of Virginia Tech. A lone, deranged gunman unleashed himself on the campus community, murdering anyone he encountered. In the aftermath one other thing was apparent: A lot of lives were unnecessarily lost merely because of poor communications. This despite the fact that many if not most students were carrying phones, pagers and PDAs. These devices were already equipped, without any additional hardware or software, to instantly alert the entire campus community of the killer’s presence, distinguishing characteristics and location. There’s no way to know how many lives might have been saved.
IDP exists for merely one reason – because it should exist. Knowledge is power in all situations. Knowledge sent by alert at a critical moment can save lives in an emergency. It can save time on a daily basis for people like busy parents who need to know if a game or a class is abruptly canceled. And it can assist consumers and businesses connect on time-sensitive special opportunities.
IDP works because it can reach the right person at the right time with information that is critically important to them. And that can make all the difference.
